A Culinary Failure

See that? That was supposed to be malt ice cream. Dave and I were introduced to this particular flavor ice cream at Woodberry Kitchen. So delicious!

When Dave suggested we try to make some ourselves, I figured why not? Seemed simple enough. I ran to the store, grabbed a container of malt, heavy cream, and half and half. Then I came home, mixed it up, threw in some sugar and put it in the ice cream maker.

I must have angered some obscure ice cream god with my hubris because what I ended up with was failure. Tasty failure sure, but failure nonetheless.

I tried everything I could think of to get the mix to firm up. In the end, I called it quits, poured what I had into bowls and called it a milkshake.

At least the kids liked it. Me? I’m licking my wounds and saving up for a new ice cream maker.

My Little Chefs haven’t tried the ice cream maker yet, but they did make a delicious milk shake. http://www.fivelittlechefs.com/2012/01/vanilla-milkshake.html
