Alt Summit: The Return Home

I’m back from my trip to Salt Lake City for Alt Summit. It was a great trip and there’s so much goodness I want to share—everything from sitting down with Jessica Alba (that’s me on the right!!) to hearing the words I needed to hear to killing on the dance floor with Sherri Silver. And the laughing. So much laughing. I’m still buzzing a bit with energy.

While I was there, my partner in crime Sandra Harris of Raincoast Cottage and I led a roundtable where we discussed creative jealousy, how to make art and have a life, dealing with our inner critic, and finding your tribe. It’s all of those challenges that creatives face. It’s also all of those things we wrestled with last year as we both found our voices. Our group was incredible. They shared so much of themselves and I hope they felt inspired to go home and make without fear!

At the end of the session, the group left with a poster featuring Sandra and my favorite inspirational quotes. Would you like a copy? Just click here to download a pdf. We had our friend Melanie Biehle of Inward Facing Girl design it. Love her!

And now for a personal note: Last year I decided to take myself seriously. And that thought and commitment changed everything. I wasn’t going to hide who I was or what I loved. And I couldn’t have done it without the support and encouragement from my family and friends. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I had to hold back from embarrassing myself and going total fan girl on her. How sweet and cute is she?

And your recaps were so fantastic. Was that your first time there?

ps. I share your crush on Darcy. She’s so cool!

I loved this recap so much. EVERYTHING but most especially the picture! My heart melts! AND I Love the series of you and Jill and Leslie in black and white–love those shots!!

Jen, I’m SO glad you had a great time and that the round table went really, really well. With you and Sandra as a team–I had NO doubt ever.

I think the online world and beyond has YOU to thank for taking yourself seriously. All the talent you hold–it has to be taken seriously. The world is better for it!

I’m so glad you decided to “take yourself seriously.” (I actually teared up a little when I read that.) You’re an amazing person, and I wish we’d gotten to hang out more than just during the roundtable, as I’d love to hear more about your journey. Similarly, I decided to value myself and what I offer, so seeing your confidence and poise in person is incredibly motivating. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much Eden. You should absolutely value yourself and what you have to offer. It’s incredible what happens when you make that commitment to yourself. So happy our paths crossed last week. I have a feeling they will again!
