Beauty and the Beast

by , posted on February 2nd, 2010 in Arts & Crafts

I’ve been fortunate to meet some very talented people during my time. One of those people is artist and illustrator Linda Olliver. When I met Linda and saw her work, I knew that I wanted to work with her one day.

Some time later an opportunity came knocking. As we were sitting around concepting our crown, we realized we needed an artist. My first call was to Linda. We chatted and she said it sounded interesting. So on a random weekday morning we met for breakfast. She listened patiently as I alternated between explaining my vision and coaxing a rambunctious three-year-old to settle down and eat his muffin. It didn’t take her long before she returned with her first sketches and they were exactly what I was looking for—icons that were classic, yet went beyond the stereotypical. Icons that hinted there was more to the story.

I gave her a call several months later to ask her to design something for Classic Play. The idea was to have a set of puppets kids could download and color in so they could create their own puppet show. She whipped up this great Beauty and Beast. And they’re yours free. So today, break out the box o’ crayons, a sturdy pair of scissors, a little glue and a popsicle stick or two and see what tales unfold.
