Cooking with Kids | Spiced Apple Cider
The crisp days of fall call for a warm treat. After playing outside with friends, come in for a mug of Spiced Apple Cider. Here’s how to make it:
2 cups apple cider
Peel from 1/2 a lemon
1 cinnamon stick
1 Tbsp honey
A grown up to help with the stove
Peel the lemon using a vegetable peeler. Make sure you hold the lemon so that your fingers do not get in the way of the peeler. A grown up may need to help with this part.
Pour cider into a saucepan.
Add lemon peel, cinnamon stick and honey to saucepan.
Heat cider on stove top. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
Carefully discard lemon peel and cinnamon stick. It’s best to have an adult do this.
Let the cider cool until it’s warm (not hot!) or if you really can’t wait, add an ice cube and enjoy. If you want to be extra fancy, you can garnish it with an apple slice. Ooh! Ahh!
