EEK! Springy Spider Toy

It’s the season of creepy crawlies. In the spirit of such a terrifying season, I came up with a terrifying project for you. It’s based on an old toy we saw while antiquing last month. By the way, the antique mall where I saw it was pretty terrifying itself. It toootally creeped me out. But I’ll save that story for another day.
You’ll need:
small dowel rod [found in the wood section of most craft stores]
black paint
black elastic [found in the jewelry section of most craft stores]
plastic spider
drill
*optional: hot glue, magnet, paperclips, black construction paper

Step 1
Paint dowel rod.
Step 2
Drill a small hole into one end of the dowel.
Step 3
String a length of elastic cording through hole. Knot a few times.
Step 4
Drill a small hole into the body of the spider. I’ll admit, this was a bit tricky. I had a difficult time holding onto the little fella.
Step 5
String the end of the elastic cording through the spider and knot.
It’s a silly little toy. But it’s great for little ones to bounce around. You can also turn it into a spider vs. fly game. Attach a small magnet to the underside of the spider with hot glue. Then cut fly shapes out of black construction paper. Affix a paperclip, then start playing.
