Family Rituals

by , posted on August 14th, 2012 in Pepperidge Farm's Goldfish Smiles

This post is an introduction to a piece I penned for Pepperidge Farm’s family site, Goldfish Smiles. In my most recent piece, I share one of our more unusual family traditions. It’s one that was a life saver and continues to be one of my favorites.

“We toured castles, wandered streets in picturesque towns, and ate chocolates. But that playground was our special place. There, my kids met local kids. Even though they didn’t speak the same language, they had the international language of play between them.” [click here to read the post]

ps. Here are two photos from the playground in Belgium I wrote about. It blows me away that the kids were ever that small. Look at those cheeks!

Love it! So agree – when traveling playgrounds are the greatest place for kids! When we traveled across the Midwest a couple of years ago – our lunch stops were always school playgrounds!…good break and lots of energy spent. We have continued that tradition when traveling here in France – although sometimes tricker to find.

Ah, that is a perfect way to get the energy out on road trips. What a smart strategy!

Are there not many playgrounds in France? I’ve only visited the country once and sadly, my visit was very brief (only lunch). I hope to visit it again one day, hopefully for more than just a few hours.
