Happy Friday

Friends, something really crummy happened yesterday. Our 5-year-old chihuahua, Winnie, broke her leg. We have no idea how it happened. We arrived home after picking Dave up from the train and she was sitting on the floor with her leg pointed in the wrong direction.
We immediately picked her up and took her to the emergency vet clinic. The kids were freaking out wondering if she was going to die. Dave was freaking out thinking about how much it was going to cost us. I was freaking out that everyone was freaking out. It was bad. Meanwhile, Winnie just sat on my lap wagging her tail like nothing was going on. She’s a funny dog, that one.
After a few hours at the clinic, a mega dose of meds, xrays and several hundred dollars (ouch!), we were sent on our way. Today we have to take her to the regular vet who will no doubt refer us to a surgeon. I know people who love their pets like they do their kids. I don’t fall into that camp. I mean she’s a great dog, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hear the sound of a cash register every time I saw the vet walk into the room. Although, to be fair, I hear the sound of a cash register every time we take the kids to the doctors too. So maybe I do love the dog as much as the kids…
Anyway, for now, Winnie is resting comfortably on her fluffy pillow. She’s enjoying all the extra attention she’s getting. Which is totally okay with me. The girl deserves it.

Thanks Jane! It’s amazing to watch what artists can do with paper cuts and puppets. I’m in awe.
