Adventures in Learning

This weekend, we’re filming the next episode of Adventures in Learning. I’m pretty excited. I have to say, I’ve finally gotten to the point of this where I can really focus on the things I love about it (now that I’ve tackled criticism, anxiety, and the steep learning curve that comes anytime you’re doing something new). It’s such a nice place to be. Hopefully, it’ll last for a while. Fingers crossed!

There are a couple things I love about being able to work on this series that I feel compelled to share. Need to make sure I document the good stuff, yeah?

The first is that I get to do research. I know, how nerdy of me right? But I really, really love that part. Reading articles, studying and then figuring out how to turn a concept into something actionable for parents is energizing.

This series has also allowed me to re-visit certain ideas and either expand or refine them through a different medium. For instance, our charity episode began as this. The Living(room) Global episode was a mash up of this activity and this memory. And of course this was the video version of that.

Now this is a month for being thankful, so I’ll say it: I’m incredibly thankful to have this series as an educational and creative outlet. I don’t know where any of this will lead, but we have seven more episodes to go!

Okay, now that I’ve rambled, it’s time to get to the links. Here are some things that caught my eye this week…

Say no to drab

I need to locate a birch tree asap

Do you watch Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls? It’s so good and a great thing to watch with older kids. Heck, forget the kids, it’s inspiring to watch by yourself. (side bar: they shared our charity video with their community this week and I almost fainted! Even though I know it’s probably run by someone other than Amy herself, I allowed myself to indulge in the fantasy of her patting me on the back and saying, “Good job.”)

A cool book and a giveaway I just entered

More leafy goodness

Fun project to do with kids

Have a wonderful weekend!!
