Homemade Gift | Spy Book

Every year, I try to make a gift for the kids. It’s not because I’m some sort of over-achiever. Well, okay, it’s probably a little of that. Mainly though, it’s that growing up, I thought it was lame that Santa bought his gifts from the store. What happened to the elves and the workshop?! That’s how it worked in the clay-animated tv specials.

So really, this is more about me and my arrested development, than the kids. Obviously.

Are you a handmade gift giver, store bought, or combination? I definitely fall into the combination category. I’m not about to whip up a bunch of legos, regardless of what the clay-animation tv specials say.

    I usually do something in between. The last few years I have had some luck at the rummage sales. One year I found a wooden play stove and the next year a wooden store. I cleaned them up, added a coat of paint and voila – new toy for Christmas.

    I am still trying to convince Ethan to have a spy party one year so I can make these books as party favors :)

    His name is Ethan, I mean, he HAS to have a Mission Impossible themed party. It’s like, written somewhere. ;)

    Very good point! How could I have forgotten that connection :) Well it is too late for this year (party in two weeks and I am so far behind – yikes!!!) but I will do my best to convince him for next year.

    I love making something for BIrdie – but I’m always running so short on time this time of year! Last year I made some little things for her Advent Calendar. I think this year I might wait and do a bigger handmade doll or something for her birthday on January 7th – I get a do-over! ;)
