Make Your Own Bubbles and Bubble Wand

It’s been rainy every day this week. So today, we decided to bring the outdoors in by mixing up a batch of bubbles. If you’re trying this, I’d encourage you to have the kids see what they can source in the house to make their own wands. I’ve heard pipe cleaners work well. We didn’t have any of those, but we did happened to find some old garland (why yes, it does say 2000 on it). Have the kids try string or yarn, cut up paper towel rolls, whatever they can find. We’ll call it a lesson in ingenuity.
And there’s science too. One experiment you can try is to have the kids blow bubbles using water and then the bubble solution to see what happens. Why is the soap solution able to capture pockets of air when plain old water can’t? The addition of soap makes the water more elastic so now it’s able to form a skin around a pocket of air.
Have fun!

I will say, the bowl makes it easier. Or at least, less likely to spill.
