Here’s a super cute idea for after school, parties, or anytime you and the kids need a dose of warm fuzzies—a milk bar. All you need is milk, cookies, and fun milk bottles*. You don’t even need festive straws, although we think they make the milk taste extra awesome.

Prepackaged flavored milks are loaded with sugar and yikes, chemicals. Here are four flavored milk recipes that feature natural ingredients and put you in control of the sugar.

pink-milk-recipe

Pink Milk
1 cup frozen strawberries or raspberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
4 cups milk

Heat berries, sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat until the berries break down and the sauce thickens into a syrup. Strain through a sieve or fine mesh strainer. Once syrup is cool, combine it with cold milk. Serves 4.

4 ripe bananas
1/4 cup sugar
6 cups milk

Place banana, sugar and milk into a blender. Blend until smooth. Serves 6.

They’re totally worth the investment. I bet you can find a source in Canada. I found one in the US but it might cost you a ton in shipping.

Thanks Deborah! The kids loved it too. Of course, they love anything that involves ‘treats.’ ;)

yummy…my dad always made banana milk for us as kids. I should try it with the kids (that just popped back into my head!)

Mmmmm…so good! I found the trick is making sure the bananas are super duper ripe. When you have those, you can skip the sugar altogether.

What a great idea for an after school play date!

Starbucks sells coffee drinks that come in glass bottles. I took the labels of several and use them for the girls’ birthday parties. They were inexpensive and look really sweet.
