Scenes from the Weekend

by , posted on February 6th, 2012 in Features

This weekend we joined the masses and purchased an iPad. I immediately loaded it with things like Kinfolk Magazine and my friend Joyce’s app, PrestoBingo Shapes. I have to say, I can see why people rave about those little devices. They’re pretty dang spectacular.

Of course, in my quest to balance the order of the universe and all, we did low tech stuff too. There was a disappointing 3D drawing activity which didn’t look 3D at all (at least the glasses were fun) and I started making the kids Valentine’s Day gifts. This year I’m attempting friendship bracelets.

Can I just say, I’d forgotten how long friendship bracelets take and how much attention is required to make just one?! It’s become this whole zen exercise thing. At my current knotting/attention rate, I estimate they’ll be finished by March of next year.

Are you attempting to make friendship bracelets for your own kids or for your kids to give all of their friends? Either way I admire your courage and motivation. Especially with an ipad in the house now. Best of luck!

Just for my two. I lack the stamina and attention span for any more than that.

Plus, and maybe this is a topic for another day, but when I have made stuff for the other kids in the class, I fear it resulted in making other parents feel bad who don’t have the time or inclination.

So this year, I think I’m going to go with flow of the class and send in regular cards and save my crafting OCD for the family.

Perfect balance of high and low technology! And isn’t Kinfolk on the iPad beautiful? I’m a little obsessed with navigating it. :)
