Spring Break Ideas: Photo Scavenger Hunt

Spring break is just around the corner leaving many families faced with this question: What are we going to do? This year our family is going the staycation route. But that doesn’t mean we’ll be bored. Over the next couple weeks, as I make my own plans for spring break fun, I’ll feature ideas you and your family can enjoy right in your own backyard. First up: the Photo Scavenger Hunt.
In one of the first issues of Classic Play, we featured a twist on the traditional scavenger hunt where kids took pictures of things we wanted them to find. We distributed a list of items and a disposable camera. Then we told the kids to snap away. Not only is it a great introduction into photography, you get to walk away with souvenirs of the adventure.
One of the things I love about this idea is its flexibility. You can come up with a list of items in the neighborhood or just as easily turn it into a grander adventure by pairing it with a trip to the zoo by including animals on the list. I also love that while it’s guided, there’s plenty of room for self expression. In my book, that’s just about the perfect recipe for play.
