Summer Fun: Destination Anywhere

by , posted on July 1st, 2010 in Ideas and Inspiration

Kids seeking a little adventure this summer?

In our Travel Issue, we offered an idea for a backyard playdate where kids create a magical plane ride to anywhere their imaginations take them. (Click the picture below or the links above to get the full article.) While we hosted our playdate in the backyard, you can easily adapt it for the indoors if you live in an apartment or city.

Enhance the journey by providing a few travel themed books the kids can read and/or flip through for inspiration. Here are a few books off our family’s bookshelf that are sure to jump start the spirit of adventure:

Usborne Children’s Picture Atlas
M. Sasek’s This is Paris
Paddington and the Grand Tour
Curious George Goes to the Beach
Zoe Sophia’s Scrapbook: An Adventure in Venice
Barefoot Books Magic Train Ride

What are some of your family’s favorite children’s travel books?

*Did you host a Destination Anywhere playdate with your kids? If so send us a picture and we’ll feature it here on Classic Play.

How funny, out eldest who is almost 3, recently pulled all the garden chairs into a line and ordered us to climb aboard. His imaginary train was about to depart and we needed our tickets clicked. Your photo so reminds me of us a little ‘loco’on our train to who knows where!
