Sunday Morning News

Last month, I was contacted about doing a segment on local news featuring the children’s table I styled for Baltimore Bride Magazine. I thought it’d be fun so I said, “Of course!” Then I freaked out realizing it was live tv. I’ve never even been on taped tv before. Ack!
Yesterday morning was the big debut. The kids gave me a pep talk before I headed out.
“You’ll be great!”
“Yeah, it’s a opportunity to show your expertise!”
“Don’t be nervous!”
“I’ll wave to you!”
And with that, I set off for the studio.
I arrived early to set up. I didn’t have much to do but I did need to adhere the freezer paper to the table cloth. I asked for an outlet to heat up the iron. They had one on set. I plugged it in and bam!, blew a fuse and the lights went out. On set. Ten minutes to air time. My first impression. Niiiiiice.
After the little *ahem* hiccup, things went smoothly. Baltimore Bride Editor, Janelle Diamond and Profiles PR Vice President, Amy Burke Friedman were there to help me set up and also talk me down when I got nervous. Those two are a powerhouse team! I mean it, they are incredible.
While I waited in the wings at the studio, Dave and the kids had a little viewing party at home.

The four minutes went by fast. Surprisingly, I got through everything and even squeezed in a pompom tutorial in under 20 seconds. Pretty sure that’s a personal best. After the show ended, I packed up, said my goodbyes and headed home.
I walked in the door and was treated to a paparazzi style entrance. These guys! It was just a few minutes on local news, but they made me feel like a million dollars. I don’t know what I did in a past life to deserve them, but it must have been something pretty darn excellent. (And yes, I know I’m totally mushy right now. Look away if you must.)

ps. if you’re one of those types (like me) that love to hear how crazy things are behind the scenes, aside from me blowing out a fuse and causing part of the set to go dark, I couldn’t turn to the side during the segment because the mic placement had my dress completely hiked up in the back. Good thing I wore leggings!

Thanks so much Jane. It really was such a thrill! I don’t know if there will ever be a repeat, but at the very least, I can say I did it once, right? ;)
