Tiny Hats Contest

Kids, make your own tiny hats! These tiny hats are perfect for stuffed animals, friends or even Robot*.

This tiny hats project was inspired by a post I ran across a couple years ago by artist Ann Wood. She created a tiny top hat tutorial on her blog. Her work is, quite simply, magical.

I finally put to use what I learned in that tutorial this past year during our kids’ school spirit week. One of the days was crazy hat day. So naturally, the kids and I caucused and agreed: tiny hats were the way to go.

This is a project kids ages 6+ can do fairly independently. For younger children, I’d recommend doing this as a family project.

Further play ideas: encourage kids to create a hat shop. They can make a variety of hats. Ask them what they’d name their shop, how they’d display the hats and what they would charge.

Storytellers Week: Storyboard Mix Up Challenge

My husband is a gifted storyteller.

About a year ago, he created a fictional character. That character went on to become the hero in a series of bedtime stories for our children. The children loved the stories from the beginning and now, there isn’t a night that goes by without a request for one of them. I’ll sit in the room as he spins one of these tales, finding myself just as amused and entertained as the kids. It amazes me how he makes it all seem so effortless. Oh, how I envy that.
