And Now… News from the Internet
Friday, February 4th, 2011
So I have this vision of putting together a newsreel. You know, the kind they used to show before movies back in the olden days of yore. Nasally voice, super fast talk, flickering footage showing people standing stiffly with smiles plastered on their faces, waiting for a light bulb to pop. Of course all this could be heavily influenced by the King’s Speech. Fantastic movie! Seriously, hire a sitter and make it a date night.
Today I wanted to bring you some news from our news desk. I’ve scoured the globe to bring you the fun, the educational and the all-about-me links (purely for vanity’s sake I assure you) for the weekend ahead. And now, the news *cue ticker tape sound*
from Brothers Trimm
Shepard Fairey’s elephant says OBEY!
from Adventures of Skinny Mini Kiki
Gong Hey Fat Choy It’s the year of the Rabbit!
from Caroline, No.
Oh, oh, oh! Yes, it’s decided. I want to have a street party now. And I want buntings and a suit made of sequins. Just like Meg White.
from Smidgebox
Why, yes! I do like to draw! Am I awesome? There’s debate.
from Push the Envelope Studios
As sentimental as I may be, I always forget the card. But, this year, before he wakes up, I’ll tiptoe downstairs and print one of these out. Thanks Caroline!
from The Itsy Factor
Do these socks come in my size?
from ModTots
Well, domo arigato mister Roboto. I think Robot has found some new friends. Aww yeah, robot party!
And here’s a look at what’s going on in the play revolution…
Finland says The Children Must Play!
Back to basics: We all need more recess in our lives. Grown ups, that includes you too.
This one is my favorite: The Four Secrets of Playtime that Foster Creative Kids.
Hint: it ain’t the passive toys that make ‘em creative. It’s the open-ended kid-driven ones. And why yes, I did just link to our toy company.
Before I go, here’s where you’ll find me hanging out these days…
What I’ll tell my kids about the internet when that crazy day comes.
Ooh, it’s our bag! It’s our bag!
Well, now this is just plain awesome! Especially because you were totally going to buy something anyway.
Oh and lookee here! It’s the Ids.
And that’s your edutainment for the weekend ahead. Until next week, keep it playful!*
*What do you think of the news anchor sign off? Yeah or meh? I mean it’s no Stay Classy San Diego, but then again, what is?

Flashback Week: Washboard Break
Wednesday, October 27th, 2010
Okay, the title of this post will mean nothing to you. Probably. Or if you’re like me, you’ll yell, “OH! That’s what Beck was singing? Wait! What?! Why is there a washboard break?” But mostly, you’ll probably wonder what is wrong with me today.
It’s okay. Sometimes, I wonder too.
Tomorrow I hope to have another Halloween flashback story. It’ll be mine and will feature a costume that has haunted me for almost 30 years. Did anyone else just felt that shiver run up their spine? No? Well, just you wait… (more…)
