Once Upon a Time

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Last week was a rather exciting week! And this week is starting out a little crazy too. Today we released the newest Ellie Bellie Kids catalog. I’m quite proud of it. We had such an amazing time making it. The kids were fantastic and had just as much fun as they appeared to have. Plus, I rather enjoy the powerful message: Just go play!

Want to see it? Huh? Huh? Whaddaya say boss? Whaddaya say? (I’m just like that little dog in the cartoon jumping up and down next to the big bulldog driving him nuts aren’t I?) To see a copy for yourself, you can either visit the EBK homepage to download an interactive pdf or you can visit the facebook fan page to view the album. You won’t get the interactive links but at least you’ll get to see it.

In the interactive version of the catalog, you’ll find a link to a short film we released on Friday called Once Upon a Time. Remember X Marks the Spot? Well it’s like that. Just sans robots..and buried treasure…and the beach. But you know, other than those few minor details

But enough rambling. Let’s get on with the show! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I am proud to introduce Once Upon a Time *cue applause light*

Behind the Scenes Stills and Video

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

The weekend before last, we had a photo shoot for an Ellie Bellie Kids catalog. The concept for this catalog, along with a new campaign, Just Go Play! came from Dave K Cooper (our photographer). The idea was to keep it simple and just let the kids play. You’ll notice off the bat, the background and clothing were kept simple and gender neutral. The idea being that the colors of the products and the kids’ energy (i.e. play) would be the focus.

Don’t you just love multi-layered meaning like that? An empty stage set for the imagination? Oooh, I get all goosebumpy just thinking about it.

Now after having done many photo shoots for Classic Play! and Ellie Bellie Kids together, Dave and I have developed a sort of rhythm. Dave, who, you probably know by now is my husband, is amazing when it comes to capturing fantastic images. And me? Well, I am not afraid to make a ninny out of myself for a smile or giggle.

We make a pretty darn-good team, if I do say so myself. Although, in an effort at full disclosure, I’ll say working together on a creative project with your spouse can…ah…let’s just say it can be an exercise in communication.

Anyway, if you’re like me, you’re curious about what goes on behind the scenes. Well, today I’m here to share.

First up is a link to some behind the scene stills captured by the very talented and all-around-super-great-guy John Waire.

And here’s a short 30 second video shot and edited by the filmmakers of Zinnia Films. It’s my first ever time on camera (ack!) and I talk about the direction our line is taking.

I think Dave, John and David beautifully captured the energy of the day. We had such a great time! And I have to say, it was an incredibly rewarding experience to see the kids having such genuine fun with our toys—unscripted, unprompted fun. That, to me, is success.

Carnival Party: Balloon Animals

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Now I’m not entirely sure why you would ever need to know how to make an animal out of a balloon. Perhaps you need a cool trick to perform at dinner parties. Maybe you feel it’s the last step towards self actualization. Or then again, you could be like me and are trying to figure out a rather inexpensive activity that will keep a group of 20 sugar-filled, party-crazed kids entertained for a few minutes. (more…)

Storytellers Week: Storyboard Mix Up Challenge

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

My husband is a gifted storyteller.

About a year ago, he created a fictional character. That character went on to become the hero in a series of bedtime stories for our children. The children loved the stories from the beginning and now, there isn’t a night that goes by without a request for one of them. I’ll sit in the room as he spins one of these tales, finding myself just as amused and entertained as the kids. It amazes me how he makes it all seem so effortless. Oh, how I envy that.

X Marks the Spot

Monday, September 13th, 2010

It’s a world premiere and you’re all invited! Join us in viewing the first ever Ellie Bellie Kids commercial. It’s a short film featuring our Robot who you’ll remember from such classic roles as Cooking with Robot: Hot Fudge and, in what is described as his most ambitious work yet, Cooking with Robot: Microwave Popcorn.

Without further ado, we now present our feature, X Marks the Spot

And what’s a premiere party without a little swag, right? Uh oh. It looks like there’s not enough bags to go around. How can we handle this in a civilized fashion? Hmmm… I know! How about a giveaway. That’s right, tell us what adventure you’d like to see our Robot go on next and you’ll be entered to win a Robot bag (your choice: blue or pink). We’ll randomly select a winner on Friday September 17th.

Oh and it’s not required, but we’d be forever grateful if you could help us spread the word to help make Robot a star. (He’s out getting headshots taken right now)

Cooking with Robot: Microwave Popcorn

Friday, September 10th, 2010

In the last post, I shared that I recently discovered I can make my own microwave popcorn using a few ingredients and a brown paper lunch bag. There was a link to Alton Brown’s recipe in the picture. But in case you missed it, I called in our Robot to show us how it’s done.
