Teacher Gifts | The Winter Break Edition

by , posted on December 19th, 2011 in Arts & Crafts, Kids DIY

Enjoy a Hot Cocoa Break

This year’s holiday gift is a mash up of a teacher gift we’ve made before and the monogram mug tutorial on Design Mom. Inside each mug is a bag of homemade marshmallows (thanks for the tutorial Smitten Kitchen!), a brick of Mexican chocolate and two small peppermint sticks.

For this project you’ll need:
White mugs
Paint pen
Hot Cocoa fixings of your choosing

Sketch out what you want to draw on the mug. This is your rough draft.

Use a paint pen to draw your picture directly onto the mug.

Concentrating.

It's him putting a flag on a sandcastle he made for his teacher.

PS. Ask any teacher what his/her favorite gift to receive is and they’ll say: GIFT CARDS! And I can totally get behind that. Since our amazing room parents already organized that gift, YAY!, this is just a little personal gift from the kids themselves.

Love these! I love the black on white, makes them so “sophisticated”

Thanks Wendy! My favorite part about the whole thing is that I had extra marshmallows and peppermint sticks. They were consumed immediately.

    Hi Tova,
We used a line of paint pen from Michaels crafts called craft smart. I’ve heard Sharpie produces a paint pen that is very similar.

I just stumbled upon this post and love the idea, but I have a dumb question: Is this mug a desktop pen-holder or do paint pens/Sharpies last through dishwashing???

It’s not a dumb question, it’s an excellent one. Truth be told, I’m not sure exactly how many dishwashings it’ll last through. It’s paint, not sharpie so it’s supposed to last. I’ve read in a couple places that sharpie marker on ceramic doesn’t make it through one washing.

I’ll see if I can’t do a test this week and let you know!

How did the dishwasher test go? I am working on a mug project myself… in the past I’ve used Peebo markers, but this time I couldn’t find them, so I used Craftsmarts. I am giving these mugs away, too, so I want to know how washable they are! Thanks!
