Teaching Empathy

What do you think about adding empathy to the school curriculum? The people at Ashoka are trying to make that happen. Actually, they’re trying to do more than add it to the curriculum, they’re trying to start a revolution.

Start Empathy, an initiative of Ashoka, seeks to unleash demand for empathy as a core 21st century skill. You can check out a series of videos here. They’re done by Ed Stockman and explains empathy in a super cute and clever way. I think they’d be great to watch with the kids.

I think this dovetails nicely with the work Brene Brown is doing. Which by the way, have you read Daring Greatly yet? It’s MUST read.

psst, like the image up there? You can buy a print here from artist Keith Davis Young.

This is would be wonderful to add to the curriculum of any school, but especially starting young in elementary school I think would reap the most benefits. Love this idea!
