The Reading Nook | Wayside School is Falling Down
It’s rare to find a chapter book that grabs the attention of BOTH boys and girls in elementary school. Once you take a peak at Wayside School is Falling Down, you will understand why.
This book is perfectly pitched at their sense of humor. It’s wacky and a little bit crazy with all sorts of wonderfully unexpected characters and situations. More than a bit familiar to our kids and their lives.
Wayside School isn’t just ANY school. First of all, the school building is 30 classrooms tall with no 19th floor. And while the first book in the short series has no 19th chapter, the second one has 3 of them: chapter 19, chapter 19 and yes, chapter 19.
You’re starting to get the idea, right?
The world of Wayside School is a strange place where anything and everything can happen. And does.
There’s the teacher Mrs. Gorf who turns the students into apples. And Mrs. Jewls, who throws the computer out the window to teach the students about gravity. According to her this is much easier than using paper and pencil.
And the students? There are 30 chapters about 30 different characters. I wonder which one will be your child’s favorite?
Author Louis Sachar wrote his first children’s story in high school. After a detour to law school and the practice of law, Louis returned to celebrating silliness through his writing. Three cheers for following your dreams!
Your 8-12 year olds will love it – neither you nor they will be able to put it down.
