Allez! Allez! It’s a Bicycling Party

Celebrate your neighborhood with a Tour de France inspired party. It’s simple fun. And that’s the very best kind!

The Set Up
When kids arrive give them sidewalk chalk to decorate driveways, sidewalks or cul-de-sacs. Parents can help with spelling and can add some drawings of their own.

Pre-Ride Activity
Before the ride begins, have an adult direct the kids to decorate their own musettes with fabric markers. These musettes are made out of inexpensive muslin cloth and hemp webbing. Fill the musettes with snacks (just like in the real Tour) and for a special treat, a copy of this fantastic mini coloring book from our friends (and favorite magazine makers) Anorak.

The Ride
Have kids grab their helmets and set them off on their bikes around the track.

Post Ride
Lemonade and water are perfect offerings for thirsty riders. For our party, all the neighbors came bearing side dishes and hotdogs were served from the grill.

Wrap Up
For a special post race treat, serve hot fudge sundaes in small mason jars. Neighbors can then linger over drinks and sundaes long into the evening.

I just love how so many ages were represented, from pre-school to parent – what an cool, cool event! Wish we had more kids in our neighbourhood…
