The Weekend in Review

I don’t know if I’ll do this as a regular thing (I know I did a slide show last week too), but yesterday I experimented with documenting our day in photos. I figured, hey, let’s play around and see what we get.
A project that’s percolating in my head is to do this from the kids point of view too. What would their pictures look like compared to the parents’ photos? I think it would make an interesting series.

Story behind the pictures
The morning started off with the discovery there was no milk in the house. Dave pumped up his tires so he could ride over to the store. He pretty much saved the day. The kids built a fort out of pillows on the couch and watched tv while I made a batch of waffles. After breakfast, we walked to the farmers market. Then, we met up with some friends to explore a Lithuanian festival. The kids spent their money on tiny glass figurines and danced it out to the sounds a Lithuanian pop singer who wore very shiny shoes. It was quite the day.
And here, without much of a segue, is where I’m going to go ahead and wax nostalgic for a moment. We may not be Lithuanian, but the festival, especially the potato pancakes, brought back memories of summer weeks spent attending old home weeks with my Grandmother, Aunts and cousins dancing the polka, eating cabbage and noodles, perogies and playing bingo. It warms my heart that I got to share that type of experience with the kids.

You know, this week I did. There is a lot of free range meat available. One vendor even sells milk fed free range pork. Never heard of milk fed pork before but you know me, I’m willing to give almost anything a try once.
Next week I’m going early for the Liege waffles. They were sold out by the time we got there.
