Vitural Summer “Science” Camp

by , posted on July 7th, 2011 in Science Fun

The summer of ’87 will always go down as the summer of Space Camp. I think my brother and I watched that movie so many times, we broke the VHS tape. That or my mother hid it and told us it was broken. Either way, it’s what I credit with knowing who Jennifer Aniston was dating when everyone was all, “Who’s Tate Donovan?” and I was all, “Um, you mean, dreamy Kevin Donaldson?”

It’s also why I still find myself calling Joaquin, Leaf.

Anyhoo, all of this is to say that when I was younger, I thought I’d grow up to be a scientist. I never achieved that dream. As my daughter once pointed out, the type of science I studied, the science of how people think and behave, isn’t really a “science.” Seriously, it was like talking to my college career counselor all over again.

So this collection of science activities for the kids I’m about to share is my feeble attempt at making that science dream come true. It may not be space camp, but you know what? You can thank me later when your kids aren’t accidentally launched into space by a sentient robot. You’re welcome.

Everyone, welcome to the Classic Play! virtual summer science camp. Just click on a picture and let the science fun begin!

Awesome collection of ideas! Kid science is way more fun than the grown-up version anyway!
