How was your week? Mine was decidedly mixed. I got some bad news, but there’s so much cooking behind the scenes here that I can’t wallow for too long. I finished up an assignment that I’m excited about and schemed with some of my friends. You’re going to love what we’ve got planned for this summer!
Plus, the weather here this weekend has been swoon-worthy. Upper 50s/low 60s and sunny. I swear I’m in heaven. I mean I’d enjoy even warmer temps, but after all the snow and ice, I’m happy with any bit of sunshine thrown my way.
For those of you with school-aged kids, have you noticed an increase in workload this month? We seem to be at the point of the year when things pick up. Both kids are working on big projects, which, trickles down to extra work for me too. There’s organizing meetings for group projects, shuttling to the library, helping them look things up on the internet, etc. Have you seen this image going around facebook? Considering how many times it’s been reposted, I’d say many of us are feeling this way.
I’m trying to walk that fine line between pushing them enough that they develop a good work ethic and backing off enough that they develop independence. I’ve been thinking about this article quite a bit.
My favorite bit of parenting advice wasn’t in that article though, it was in the comments section:
Our job as adults is to ask two questions. First, ask your kids “What do you want?” …The second question to ask them is “What do You need to do to get what You want?” Not “how can I get it for you.”
I’m going to carry that bit of advice with me forever. Who knew a person named “Squirt” could be so wise?
Hope you’re enjoying a lovely weekend! And now some reading…
