What I Love About Parenting | Danielle Reiner Crafting Connections

by , posted on April 23rd, 2014 in What I Love About Being a Parent

I think one of the most difficult things when it comes to parenting is simultaneously facing our histories and our futures. Didn’t we feel the weight of both when we first saw those two blue lines? And also, fear? Don’t we still feel them today? Today’s guest is one of my most favorite people. She is fighting that fear with boldness and creativity. Danielle’s one of those people who really is making the world a better place. And she’s doing it by starting where it all begins—family. -Jen

Crafting Connections' Danielle Reiner on what she loves being a parent

You know, there are about a million reasons why I love parenting. But I won’t bore you with all of them, even though, maybe you wouldn’t be bored at all.

Instead of sharing all the reasons, I will share the biggest reason why I love parenting. And it’s one that is as much about them, my little ones, as it is about me.

It’s that I get the chance to write a new story.

We’ve all got things from our own pasts, skeletons in our own closets. And while I know full well that my kids will have their own skeletons, I also know that I have a chance to make their story awesome. And, in doing so, I get the chance to make my story awesome as well.

Every Saturday we have family adventure day. Sometimes we head to the beach, sometimes we hike in the mountains. We visit museums, go on boat rides. And I know those days are part of their story, a powerful part. And they are also a part of mine. Those moments we spend and memories we make are etched into my mind and I will hold them, fondly, now and for all time.

I’m Danielle Reiner, co-founder of Crafting Connections. If I had to use only three words to describe myself, they’d be – creative. maker. mama. My brain is constantly buzzing and my work table is always overflowing. Which is, of course, exactly the way I like it.

I recently moved from Chicago to California where I am exploring our new stomping grounds and soaking in the sun with my three guys (husband, and sons aged 5 and 3).

About this series:
Throughout the month of April, I’m teaming up with my friend Jenny Yarbrough of The Southern Institue to celebrate the joys of parenting. Consider it a prelude to Mother’s Day. We’ve asked some of our readers to share what they love most about parenting. This week, hop on over to see what Kim Rowe had to say.

Danielle, that’s beautiful! It’s one of the most hopeful things about parenting. I already see so much more for my children, and I’m trying to let go of the fears that I bring with me from my childhood- the insecurities. Especially for my daughter. I love this series… it’s so wonderful to be reminded of what parenting brings to our lives.
